International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, on 11th February, our university has decided to dedicate an article to selected foreign women that are doing their research at our University. The article talks about reasons why they choose to do research in general and why at our University. The article can be found here.

Another part of these celebrations is an event that is going to be held in Prague on 8th March. The evening event will start with a screening of the documentary film "Picture a Scientist" followed by a panel discussion of participating international women scientists about their experiences working at Charles University. Among the foreign female researcher, there will be two Ph.D. students who are doing science at the Biomedical Center and won two prestigious grants under the START Program of our University. Ing. Maria Stefania Massaro from the Laboratory of Cancer Treatment and Tissue Regeneration and Annu Kala, M.Sc., from the Laboratory of Experimental Neurophysiology each received funding for 2.3 millions Czech crowns in 2021 to lead a team of other PhD students. Ing. Massaro is working in the field of Experimental Surgery focusing on decellularization of porcine tissues and their in vitro repopulation with cells in bioreactors. Dr. Kala is working in the field of Experimental Neurophysiology studying the mechanisms involved in memory during sleep and the influence of sepsis. More information about this event can be found at https://cuni.cz/UK-12449.html.
